Together in the Groove

$50.00

Annie Booth’s "Together in the Groove" speaks to the spirit of collaboration in jazz music: listening deeply, working as one, and creating something magical together.

“Together in the Groove” features a playful melodic structure with somewhat of a “call and response” character, supported by colorful harmonies. At rehearsal mark C, the full ensemble quite literally comes together in the groove, locking into a bold unison rhythm. Sudden dynamic shifts in this section—from forte (f) to piano (p) within a single measure—add a touch of drama and energy, as does the punchy fortissimo ending!

Improvised solos are available for anyone in the ensemble. Students are encouraged to check out the included “improv resource,” which offers a written solo and ideas for exploration. Try writing your own solo and have fun experimenting—it’s a great way to grow as a musician!

Included: PDF digital downloads of full transposed score, all parts, and reference mp3.

  • Level: Middle School

  • 5 saxes/4 trombones/4 trumpets/guitar, piano, bass, drums + optional parts (Vibraphone, Aux. Percussion, Flute, Clarinet in Bb, Horn in F, Baritone T.C., and Tuba)

  • Highest note for lead trumpet = Concert D5 (written E top space)

  • Highest note for lead trombone = Concert D4
