Janelle Finton’s “Letting Go: Space for Joy” is a beautiful and introspective college level piece that draws on orchestral and contemporary elements of the modern big band sound. The piece was written during her time as a student at the University of Miami and is a wonderful opportunity to feature a flugelhorn soloist, both on the written melody and in a spirited, multi-meter improvised solo section.
