"Kaleidoscope," composed by then sixteen-year-old trumpeter and composer Skylar Tang, was the winner of the 2022 Essentially Ellington Festival Student Composition & Arranging Contest. A dynamic piece with a driving 9/8 Afro-Cuban groove, Kaleidoscope leads the listener through contrasting moments of intense suspense and introspective tranquility.
