Bethany Robinson

Bassist | Composer | Educator

Bethany Robinson is a Yamaha Performing Artist, GRAMMY Music Educator Award

Finalist, Recording Academy Member, JEN Executive Board Member and NAfME Jazz

Council Chair. She is currently the Director of Jazz for Purdue University (Indiana), after

building the program at Noblesville (Indiana) High School from 1 to 6 jazz ensembles,

including 2 Jazz at Lincoln Center Essentially Ellington Finalist appearances and an

Indiana State Jazz Honor Band Award. She is also the director for the annual Purdue

Jazz Festival, the largest college-run jazz festival in the US.

Robinson’s awards include Indiana Jazz Educator of the Year, Noblesville Teacher of

the Year, Indiana Outstanding High School Music Educator of the Year, and Jazz

Journalists Association Jazz Hero Award. She also is the co-creator of Indiana Jazz

Girls Day, an event spanning 10+ years, and expanded this event to other states and

even abroad to Hannover, Germany, where the event received a Germany Jazz Prize

nomination.

Bethany has presented to students and music educators in Australia, Scotland, the

Midwest Clinic, and many State Music Conferences (NY/OK/IN/OH/SC). She has guest

conducted all-state jazz ensembles in NY, IA, NC, SC, MO, and was a chief adjudicator

and guest artist for the Victorian Schools’ Jazz Festival in Melbourne, and the Western

Australia Schools’ Jazz Festival in Perth. She is a clinician and adjudicator for Jazz at

Lincoln Center, YAMAHA, Music for All and independently. Bethany is an avid performer

on upright bass, electric bass, and vocals in the US and abroad
